Philosophy
Through my years of studying the piano and teaching lessons, I have a strong desire for their piano study to help them learn to love music and have a positive, engaging experience while they learn. Lessons are structured to tailor to each student's individual needs and learning style. My goal is to give them a strong foundation that will progress them into more intermediate and advanced levels of study, as well as a platform that can be used in all other musical aspects.
Education
I have studied the piano extensively since I was nine years old. I have my Associates Degree from Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho), and graduated with my Bachelors of Music Degree, in Piano Pedagogy, from Utah State University in 2002. I am a past member of the Utah Music Teachers Association, which is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association, and served as President of the Nebo chapter from 2010-2011. I am currently a member of the Washington Music Teachers Association, and Clark County Music Teachers Association, also in affiliation with MTNA.
Experience
After graduation from USU, I was on the faculty at the Utah State University Piano Youth Conservatory where I taught music theory classes, as well as private lessons from 2002-2003. I was the music specialist at Grandview Elementary in Provo, UT in 2004 teaching K-3rd grade music classes. Since then I have put all my focus into continuing to develop my private teaching studio, where I have taught lessons for over 23 years. I have also been active as an adjudicator at various music festivals and as an accompanist within my church, as well as for other music students and choirs. I'm currently the choir accompanist at Pacific Middle School.
